Una guerra che ha preso la vita di almeno 300.000 persone e tre milioni di sfollati, si sta entrando in una fase nuova e devastante. Dal 1 ° gennaio, almeno 20.000 civili innocenti sono stati costretti a fuggire dalle loro case. “Il mondo sta sopprimendo il popolo del Darfur. “The world is failing the people of Darfur. Since January 1, at least 20,000 innocent civilians were forced to flee their homes.
2015 began with new bombings in Darfur, senior UN officials were kicked out of the country and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir — a man wanted for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity — called for the removal of all UN peacekeepers. These actions are in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolutions and must be met with bold measures by the United States and the international community. The UN peacekeeping mission must be held accountable for past failures and strengthened so that it can carry out its mission. And the Security Council must fully support the International Criminal Court’s warrant for President Bashir by coordinating with member states to arrest him. For the sake of past victims of genocide and those now in the cross-hairs of the sharpest uptick in violence in nearly a decade, I urge you and all of the members of the Security Council to respond boldly and decisively.”
